United Kingdom - 2009 / 2010 Univeristy of Edinburgh College Postgraduate Studentships

The University of Edinburgh College Postgraduate Research Scholarships are offered to academically outstanding candidates starting MPhil/PhD or MLitt programmes at the University of Edinburgh in 2009/2010.

The studentships will cover UK/EU tuition fees and a maintenance allowance broadly equivalent to those of the UK Research Councils and the British Academy. Research costs may also be paid.

Eligibility
The sole criterion for the studentships will be academic excellence; successful applicants are likely to be holders of a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours degrees from UK institutions or the overseas equivalent. Candidates who have progressed to obtain a Masters degree with distinction will also be considered.

All international students who apply for the studentships are also required to apply for an Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORSAS) award or be able to demonstrate the availability of funds to meet the full overseas tuition fee.

Department of Pathology, and the School of Veterinary Medicine.
WELCOME TRUST 4-YEAR PhD PROGRAMME

Through a funding initiative by the Wellcome Trust, the University of Cambridge has an on-going 4-year PhD Programme in Infection and Immunity.

The Programme involves collaboration between the School of Clinical Medicine and the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, the Department of Pathology, and the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Five studentships will be available in October 2007.

The major themes of the Programme are Infection and Immunity, and Basic Cell and Molecular Biology (including structural and cell biology). The initial year of training involves in-depth analyses of topics of research relevant to the overall themes of the Programme, and 3 mini-projects in research laboratories attached to each of the Programme themes.

Students then can make an informed choice of their 3-year thesis project and complete their PhD in the 4-year period.
