UK - Scottish Universities Physics Alliance PhD Studentships in Physics

The alliance brings together internationally leading physics research across Scotland to form the largest physics grouping in the UK. Major research themes being pursued are astronomy, condensed matter and materials physics, nuclear and plasma physics, elementary particles, photonics and physics and life sciences.

The Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA) is offering up to 8 fully funded PhD studentships for outstanding students from anywhere in the world. These prestigious and competitive awards are intended to attract outstanding students to study for a PhD in Scotland.

Applicants will be registered for a PhD in physics at one of the participating Universities namely:

The School of Economics and Finance at the University of St Andrews, is offering five PhD studentships to be taken up in Autumn 2007 - or as soon as possible thereafter - to work on topics related to macroeconomics, market or contract incompleteness or in related areas: The emphasis is on developing microeconomic foundations for macroeconomic theories and policy advice.

These scholarships are part funded by the Scottish Institute for Research in Economics which is a major new initiative between the Scottish Universities, in collaboration with the Scottish Funding Council, in which the University of St Andrews is a lead institution. UK - University of St. Andrews PhD Studentship in Macroeconomics at CDMA

Project Name: Private Sector Finance and the Support of Infrastructure as a Source of Economic Growth

The Centre for Dynamic Macroeconomic Analysis (CDMA), based in the School of Economics and Finance at the University of St Andrews, is offering two PhD studentships to be taken up in Autumn 2006 – or as soon as possible thereafter – to work on topics related to the micro-founded models of aggregate fluctuations.

You will work on these topics in part with CDMA affiliated members of the School and undertake limited undergraduate teaching in return for a financial support package which will cover tuition fees in addition to a studentship of £12,000 per year. You will have
completed a Masters degree in economics or you will have at least an Honours degree-level education in a technical area such as mathematics or engineering. Offers of a studentship will be conditional on applicants being admitted to the University as a PhD
student. Awards will be for one year in the first instance, with continuation for a further two years subject to satisfactory progress each year.
