USA - 2008 / 2009 Columbia University Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sociology and Economics

Description
The post-doctoral fellowship of the Committee on Global Thought at Columbia University is designed to bring together an innovative group of interdisciplinary researchers from around the world. The Fellowship gives emerging scholars the opportunity to work with distinguished faculty and provide a space for collaborative research and publication. CGT encourages interdisciplinary, transnational research under three broad themes: Secularism and Diversity, Global Governance, and Poverty and Inequality. Past fellows have researched topics including the local socio-economic consequences of global policy, the historical roots of identity, and the evolution of transnational and international political structures. Scholars from any discipline may apply, provided that they successfully indicate how their work will contribute to CGT’s three research themes listed above. Up to four fellowship spots are available for the academic year beginning August 1, 2009.

The term of the fellowship is one calendar year, beginning August 1, 2009 and ending July 31, 2010. The fellowship is renewable for an additional year, contingent upon mutual satisfaction with demonstrated progress.

Requirements
Fellows are expected to:

  • Teach or assist with one undergraduate or graduate course, either of their own design or as specified by the Committee. When teaching, fellows are required to hold weekly office hours.
  • Participate in planning and execution of research workshops and symposia.
  • Present their individual research projects once a semester.

Eligibility
International applicants are encouraged to apply. If selected, Columbia University will sponsor the appropriate visa.

USA - Georgia Insitute of Technology Kranzberg Graduate Fellowship in History and Sociology of Technology and Science

The School of History, Technology and Society at the Georgia Institute of Technology is pleased to announce the Kranzberg Graduate Fellowship for enhanced funding for four years in its graduate program in the history and sociology of technology and science.

This fellowship is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Kranzberg family and the Stern Foundation. It will supplement the usual stipend for students accepted with full funding into the program (currently about $14k annually) with an additional $5000 per year (total about $19k/year), plus a tuition waiver for four years. Interested applicants must propose a research project which is compatible with the intellectual focus of the graduate program.

The Foundation announces the fourteenth (14th) annual Programme of research grants and educational scholarships starting on October 1st, 2008, which is addressed to non Greeks, full Members of National Academies, University Professors of all levels (Ph.D. holders), postdoctoral researchers (Ph.D. holders), artists, elementary and secondary school teachers of the Greek language as a foreign one, post-graduate students and Ph.D. candidates.

FIELDS / SECTIONS OF RESEARCH OR STUDY
The Programme covers the following fields only:

  • Humanities: Philology, Literature, Linguistics, Theology, History, Archaeology, Philosophy, Educational Studies, Psychology
  • Political Science: Sociology, International Relations

Cranfield University Defence College of Management and Technology (DCMT), situated within the Defence Academy at Shrivenham, near Oxford, invites applications for a 36 month PhD/MPhil studentship is funded under the Directed Research Programme of the DCMT. The studentship will start in March 2008 (or earlier) and will involve working on a project under the supervision of Professor Keith Grint. The project will compare and evaluate several leadership development programmes – including defence programmes - using qualitative methodologies.

The studentship will cover tuition fees to home/EU level, and will provide a stipend, currently £15,000. Overseas students are eligible to apply but will be liable to pay the difference between home/EU and overseas fees.

Applications are invited from candidates with backgrounds in a range of relevant academic disciplines, including business and management, sociology, organization studies, anthropology, and other related fields.

The ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships are offered by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) for students from the Association of South East Asian Nations, or ASEAN (except Singapore). ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The scholarship is tenable for an undergraduate degree programme on a full-time basis at NTU.
