The Embassy of Japan has begun offering scholarships to Indonesian students who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students for the academic year 2009 under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship program.
Any grantee who desires to enroll in a regular graduate course (a master’s course, a doctoral course or a professional graduate course) after studying as a research student or to move on from a master’s course or a professional graduate course to a doctoral course must pass an entrance examination given by the university concerned.
Applicants must have the following qualifications (among others):
- Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1974
- Applicants must have received from their university a GPA of 3.0 or higher or must have achieved a total score of 260 or higher in 2 subjects (except the subject of “Japanese”) in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU).
- a minimum TOEFL score of 550 or equivalent or The Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 2 or higher.

The Japanese Government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology / MONBUKAGAKUSHO) offers the scholarship to Indonesian teachers who wish to study at universities (non-degree) in Japan from the academic year 2008 (October 2008) for one and a half year (includes a 6-month Japanese language training period).
Qualifications for the application are as follows:
- Applicants must be less than 35 years of age as of 1st April 2008..
- Applicants must be university or teacher training college graduates and must be teachers in active service of primary or secondary schools (including private schools) who have at least 5 years of experience in their terms of service as of 1st April 2008.

The Department of Physiological Sciences, University of Advanced Studies (Sokendai) is operated by the National Institute for Physiological Sciences (NIPS) at Okazaki (http://www.nips.ac.jp/eng/). NIPS consists of 19 divisions dedicated to the study of the physiological functions of living organisms including humans. Research areas cover various physiological sciences including morphology, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular and cellular biology, and information science. Research activities are extensive and comprehensive. Some of our current research involves the molecular structure of ion channels, intracellular dynamics of ions, mechanisms of secretion and cell volume regulation, development and differentiation of neuronal cells, mechanisms of synaptic transmission and neural network formation, and higher brain functions such as processing of sensory information, motor control, learning, and cognition.
To carry out the mission of the institute as a cooperative center for universities and research institutes within and outside Japan, we accept many visiting scientists from all around the world for collaborative projects.
