Asia - 2009 NUS Asian Graduate Student Fellowships

The Asia Research Institute of NUS invites applications from citizens of Asian countries enrolled for a fulltime advanced degree at a university in an Asian country (except Singapore) for consideration for the award of Asian Graduate Student Fellowships. These fellowships are offered to current graduate students doing their Master’s or PhD degrees and working in the Humanities and Social Sciences on Southeast Asian topics, and will allow the recipients to be based at NUS for an ‘in residence fellowship’ for a period of three months. The aim of the fellowship is to enable scholars to make full use of the wide range of resources held in the libraries of NUS and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. Scholars will be expected to commence on 4 May 2009, and to make a presentation on their work at the Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies at the end of July 2009.

Successful candidates can expect the following benefits:

• A monthly allowance of SGD$1,750 (inclusive of housing allowance).
• A one time round trip travel subsidy by the most economical and direct route on a reimbursement basis upon being accepted for the fellowship.
• Access to library and computer resources on campus.

Applicants are invited to e-mail/facsimile/mail their curriculum vitae, a 2-page outline of their research proposal in English (this may be accompanied by a longer statement in a Southeast Asian language) to the address below by 15 November 2008. Arrangements should also be made by which at least two letters of reference, one of which is from your principal supervisor, are sent confidentially to the same address by the same deadline.

• The Dean’s International Diversity Scholarship (Available to international students only): The Dean’s International Diversity Scholarships are Aegis School of Business’s full-tuition scholarships, starting for 2008 August intake and available exclusively to international students. Asia - 2008 / 2009 Asia Fellows Awards from ASF and the Ford Foundation

Funding and Administration
The Asian Scholarship Foundation (ASF) is funded by a grant from the Ford Foundation. Its office in Bangkok administers the ASIA Fellows Awards in the region with assistance from partner offices in Beijing, New Delhi, Manila, Hanoi, and Jakarta.

The ASF Board Management Committee is composed of twelve educational and public leaders from the People’s Republic of China, South and Southeast Asia, and Australia. The Board Management Committee selects the fellows, oversees the program and makes policy decisions.

Goals and Objectives
The principal goal of the ASIA Fellows Awards is to increase the overall awareness of intellectual resources in the countries of Northeast, South and Southeast Asia and to contribute to the growth of long-range capabilities for cross-regional knowledge sharing. The ASIA Fellows Awards seek to develop regional expertise, establish a multilateral network of Asian specialists from many disciplines, professional fields and countries, stimulate interdisciplinary research and inter-societal comparison, and contribute to new developments within existing area studies communities. The awards offer opportunities for outstanding young and mid-career Asian scholars, and professionals to gain knowledge of the countries in the region and an understanding of the contexts that shape global and regional issues through research. They enable the awardees to conduct research in a participating Asian country for six to nine months.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan.

Qualified citizens of developing member countries of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), who intend to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, Management, Science & Technology and other development-related fields are invited to apply for scholarships under the Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program. upon successful completion of the graduate, the scholars are expected to return to their countries and contributes to its socioeconomics development. India - 2007 / 2008 General Cultural Scholarship Scheme for Indonesian and Timor Leste Students

Government of India, through the General Cultural Scholarship Scheme (GCSS) administered by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), has announced the grant of 20 scholarships for Indonesian students and 10 scholarships for students from Timor Leste for the academic year 2007-2008 in the fields of Arts, Architecture, Literature, Commerce and Science and degree courses in Engineering, Pharmacy and Agriculture. The scholarships are also extended for doctoral and post doctoral courses.

Interested and eligible candidates may download the Application Form, General Instructions to applicants and Instructions to Candidates for filling the Application Form. The last date for receiving application forms duly completed in all respects in 6 (six) copies alongwith all supporting documents is 31st January, 2007. All candidates will be required to appear in a test in the English language which will be held on 7th February, 2007.

Italy & India - ICGEB PhD Fellowships in Molecular Genetics and Life Sciences

The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology offers long and short-term PhD fellowships to nationals from its Member States at its two Components located in Trieste, Italy, and New Delhi, India, through the following actions:

International PhD Programme:
Postgraduate studies (3 years) are available with the aim of obtaining the Doctor Philosophiae (PhD) degree in molecular genetics and life sciences. The degree can be awarded by a number of validating entities of national and international level such as: Open University (UK); Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa (Italy); Nova Gorica University (Slovenia) or Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (India).

Singapore - 2007/2008 SIA-NOL Undergraduate Scholarship at NTU

The Singapore Airlines-Neptune Orient Lines (SIA-NOL) Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students of Indian nationality for a 4-year undergraduate studies at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) commencing July 2007.

Eligibility Criteria
Indian nationals who are completing Standard 12 (Science stream) in year 2007 are eligible to apply for the scholarships tenable at NTU. Applicants should possess outstanding academic track record (at least an overall average of 90%) in the Standard 10 State/National examinations and a strong extra-curricular activities record.

Application Procedure
As the scholarship is offered to students admitted to NTU, students applying for the SIA-NOL Undergraduate Scholarship have to first submit the on-line application for admission to NTU.
