Australia - 2008 Curtin University of Technology Research Fellowships in Various Fields

Curtin Research Fellowships

The Fellowship scheme aims to attract high quality researchers with excellent potential for providing future academic and research leadership at the University. The scheme was expanded as a major strategic development under the University’s Research Management Plan 2006-2008. It is highly competitive and amongst the most prestigious Fellowship schemes in Australia.

Curtin University of Technology will offer up to thirteen Research Fellowships commencing in 2009. Up to five Early Career Researcher (ECR) Fellowships will be available for suitably qualified candidates who received their PhD within the last five years and up to eight Senior Research (SR) Fellowships will be available to suitably qualified candidates with more than five years post-doctoral experience.

Preference will be given to applicants who are able to make significant contributions in the following targeted areas of research activity:

  • Sustainability/Sustainable Development;
  • Cultural Enterprises;
  • Chronic Disease Prevention and Management;
  • Population Health;
  • Mental Health;
  • Ageing;
  • Indigenous Health;
  • Geology;
  • Chemical Engineering;
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering allied to high performance computing;
  • Radio Astronomy;
  • Theoretical Physics;
  • Climate Modelling;
  • Nanochemistry/Water Chemistry/Organic Geochemistry;
  • Digital Ecosystems;
  • Economic Development

Germany - German National Research Centre for Geosciences PhD Fellowship in Geoengineering

Job Vacancy No. 66/5/07 D

The GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ Potsdam) presents as member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres the national Research Centre for Earth Sciences.

The department 5 “Geoengineering”, section 5.4 “Engineering Hydrology” invites application for a Ph.D. Position (m/f)

Tasks:
The successful candidate will participate in an activity to develop a simulation system for quantifying the flood risk (precipitation-runoff generation-flood routing-flood defence-inundation-damage) at the regional scale. He/she will develop and apply simulation models describing the hydraulic processes in the river system, including flood defences (dykes, polders) and flood plain inundation.

USA - Yale University Postdoctoral Position in Ocean, Atmosphere and Climate Dynamics

YALE UNIVERSITY: Postdoctoral Position in Ocean, Atmosphere and Climate dynamics.

New postdoctoral position in Ocean, Atmosphere and Climate dynamics is available at Yale University, Department of Geology and Geophysics ( http://www.geology.yale.edu, http://www.geology.yale.edu/~avf5).

Particular fields of research include tropical ocean-atmosphere interactions, ENSO modeling, decadal climate variability, oceanic circulation and the role of ocean in climate, physical oceanography, paleoclimate and climate change. The work will involve a combination of numerical modeling, analyses of proxy, observational and/or GCM data, and analytical approaches. Collaboration with scientists of GFDL, in Princeton NJ, is expected. A Ph.D. in physical oceanography, atmospheric sciences or related disciplines is required. Familiarity with oceanic and/or atmospheric general circulation models is a big plus. Funding is currently available for two years but may be extended in future. The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
