Applications are invited for a two year post-doctoral research fellow position available immediately in the research group of Dr. Mikko Vähäsöyrinki in Department of Physical Sciences and Biocenter Oulu, University of Oulu, Finland.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The appointee is expected to develop his/her own research project within the laboratory’s general interest: How is visual information processed at different stages of the Bumblebee visual system? Research will be conducted in a multidisciplinary laboratory with excellent experimental facilities.
Research will be based on electrophysiological experiments at the single neuron or population level in restrained Bumblebees exposed to naturalistic stimuli. We have recently developed several new experimental tools to enable recording from neuron(s) during closed-loop behavior ranging from new extracellular population recording methods to panoramic virtual reality environment.
The appointee is expected to be able to perform high quality in vivo intra- and extracellular recordings. Mathematical modeling and computational neuroscience methods are widely used in the laboratory, which gives an opportunity to combine experimental and theoretical approaches in the project.

ASC - Master of Science: Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry
Duration: 2 years
Course description:
The Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry Masters course is a two year (120 ECTS) programme within 7 european universities, providing students with state of the art spectroscopic techniques in a broad range of modern chemistry applications. The ASC Master of Science diploma is delivered after completion of 90 ECTS (3 semesters) of courses and 30 ECTS of a Master thesis.
Courses are taught in English at the seven partner universities. The network student population will be in the 60-70 brackets, with a student to teacher ratio of 2.0 or better. The ASC programme recruits students with a Eurobachelor in Chemistry, or holders of equivalent degrees, and a B2 prerequisite English level.
The selected students will study in at least 2 countries (minimum mandatory mobility: one semester):
- A 1st semester at Lille (FR) or Leipzig (DE), dedicated to provide all candidates with a common platform of core courses in advanced spectroscopic methods, including magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, optical spectroscopy and diffraction techniques.
- A second semester at Lille (FR) or Leipzig (DE), where in addition to courses in spectroscopy, the ASC curriculum prepares students for specialisation courses and research projects to be carried out at a later date, in which spectroscopy will be the backbone.
- A 3rd semester mobility in any of the consortium institutions for specialization courses, where expansion is provided with applications in the following specialties :
- Univ. of Bergen (NO): Spectroscopy of natural products.
- Univ. of Bologna (IT): Quantum Chemistry, Catalysis.
- Univ. of Helsinki (FI): Spectroscopy of Environmental and Green Chemistry.
- Univ. of Krakow (PL): Optical Spectroscopy, Computational and Forensic Chemistry
- Univ. Leipzig (DE): Bioorganic NMR, Protein Crystallography.
- Univ. of Lille (FR): Solid State Spectroscopy - NMR, X ray diffraction.
- Univ. of Madrid (ES): Chemical sensors, ultrafast Lasers and femtochemistry.
- A 4th semester mobility in any of the consortium institutions upon student choice of a research topic towards the Master thesis, which will be strongly encouraged to be based on a collaborative project between two of the partner institutions.
A Summer school will be organised each year in the ASC Master programme, at the end of the first year, bringing ASC students in one location as a group. The ASC Master aims to prepare students to become experts and develop international skills
towards doctoral programs and/or professional activities in chemical analysis, characterization of the structures of materials, and measurements of fast phenomena.

This is an integrated Masters taught in English and based on the most relevant courses of each institution in order to create a unique programme in International IT management.
Upon completion, students get three degrees:
- Master of Science in Information Management (recognised in the Netherlands)
- Master Sciences du Management Spécialité Management et Technologies de l’Information (France) and
- Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration (Finland).
Eligibility
IMMIT is open to students with Bachelor or equivalent undergraduate degree (180ECTS) either in
- Management/Economics/Business Administration or in
- Computer Science/Information System.
Students with an engineering degree can be admitted if their previous education includes ICT and information systems (at least 24 ECTS).
Candidates must have good proficiency of English (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent).
Qualitative criteria include:
- Marks obtained in the bachelor studies (must be above average)
- Quality/recognition of home institution having awarded the first degree
- The strength of the statement of purpose, in other words motivation to study IMMIT
- CV including extra-curricular activities (especially those associated with cross-cultural/international experiences
The programme constitutes four successive phases:
- Foundations: International Business (France)
- Skills: IT Management (Finland)
- ntegration: Managing IT for International Business (Netherlands)
- Thesis: International IT Management Topics (any location in Europe).
IMMIT is a European innovation with its uniqueness in offering a European perspective on IT Management in internationally operating organisations. At the same time, IMMIT addresses the differences in culture, geography, time zones, telecommunication infrastructure and country-specific legal frameworks.
Application

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships - IMESS: International Masters in Economy, State and Society
Duration in months: 24 months
Course description:
Building on the existing strengths of six leading European universities, this Masters programme in Economy, State & Society situates the study of the emerging economies and societies of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) in a global context. The multidisciplinary, language-based programme is organised along four tracks:
- Economics and Business
- Politics and Security
- Nation and Society
- History and Culture
The states of CEE have undergone far-reaching political, economic and social change since 1989, culminating in the 2004 and 2007 European Union enlargements. Understanding the comparative economic advantages of the CEE states, their relationship with the EU border states, the importance of migration flows, health and security for the wider region as well as the obstacles faced in developing a truly knowledge-based economy are essential both for the European and the global community. This MA will raise the global expertise in this area by addressing these key issues in the context of the region’s economies, states and societies.
