The Indonesian-German Scientists Exchange Program is a joint project by the DAAD and the Directorate of Research and Community Service Development (DIKTI) in the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. Each year, up to 5 scientists from higher education institutions or research institutes from both countries may take part in the exchange.
The program is open to scientists from all disciplines. Its aim is to intensify existing contacts between scientific institutions in the partner countries. The exact mode of cooperation depends on the needs of the participants; research stays can be supported as well as participation in colloquiums and visits as a guest lecturer. General information visits can not be supported.

Application deadline: 15 October 2007
Objective
Short-term research grants provide young foreign academics and scientists with an opportunity to carry out a research project or continuing education and training at a German higher education institution or non-university research institute, but without aiming for a formal degree/qualification.
Duration
Depending on the applicant’s work schedule, the research stay will last between one and six months.
Requirements
- Applications for DAAD research grants are open to excellently-qualified young academics and scientists who hold a Master’s degree and have been enrolled in a doctoral program at the Indonesian university at the time they commence the grant.
- The application papers must generally include written confirmation of academic supervision by a professor in Germany and explicitly refer to the applicant’s project, thereby confirming that the host institute will provide a workplace.
- Besides previous study achievements, the most important selection criterion is a convincing and well-planned research or continuing education and training project to be completed during the stay in Germany and which has been coordinated and agreed with an academic supervisor at the chosen German host institute.
- German language skills are generally required, although the required level also depends on the applicant’s project and topic, as well as on the available opportunities for learning German in the applicant’s home country. In the natural sciences and in engineering disciplines, in particular, and when English is spoken at the host institute, proof of good English language skills may also be accepted.
- The award of DAAD research grants for doctoral candidates and young academics and scientists is subject to an age limit for applicants of 32.
- Applicants who have already been in Germany for more than two years when the research grant begins cannot be considered.

DAAD Long-term Research Grants for Doctoral Studies
Objective
Target group for research grants :
- excellently-qualified teaching staff from universities
- researchers from research institutions in any field of study/research
- applicants from private sectors with at least two years of working experience
Note: Any teaching staff predominantly or exclusively involved in non-degree programs are not eligible.
Research grants can be used to carry out :
- research projects at a German higher education institution for the purpose of gaining a doctorate in Indonesia (according to the “DAAD Sandwich Model” - see annex 3) , age limit of 35 at the time of application
- research projects at a German university for the purpose of gaining a doctorate in Germany , age limit of 31 at the time of application
Scholarship duration
The length of the grant is set by the grant committee during the selection depending on the project in question and on the applicant’s work schedule. In the case of full doctoral programs in Germany the scholarship will be granted for up to three years. For sandwich scholarships, the research stay in Germany will be supported for a maximum of two years.
Support can only be provided for the completion of a full doctoral program in Germany when special support policy reasons exist. Such reasons include, for example, the lack of comparable research or academic supervision opportunities in the home country or when the doctoral topic requires several years of research in Germany. Even when support has been awarded for a full doctoral program, that award will be limited to one year at a time. Extensions of the scholarship then depend on whether or not the evaluation finds the previous award period has been successfully completed.
Value
Depending on the award holder’s academic level, the DAAD will pay a monthly award of 975 Euros plus travel and a health insurance allowance. In addition to these payments, the DAAD will pay a study and research allowance.
When award holders take doctoral programs run under the “DAAD Sandwich Model” and obtain the degree at the home university the award may include the travel expenses of both academic supervisors.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) funds Study Visits and Study Seminars and Practicals in the Federal Republic of Germany by groups of foreign students under the supervision of university teachers.
A. Funding Objective
- This funding programme aims to deliver subject-related knowledge by arranging corresponding visits, tours and information meetings (Study Visits) respectively by organising subject-related seminars and practical courses in the field of higher education (e.g. specialist courses, block seminars, workshops) at the invitation of a German university which is then also responsible for arranging seminars and practicals in academia, business and industry and, possibly, in public institutions (Study Seminars and Practicals).
- To facilitate meetings with German students, academics and researchers to establish and maintain contacts between German and foreign universities.
- To enable participants to acquire a greater understanding of Germany by providing an insight into economic, political and cultural life in Germany. This part of the visit must not make up more than one third of the stay.
In the case of Study Seminars and Practicals, the programme aims to encourage a policy of reciprocal invitation, although this does not constitute a condition of support, which means that funding can initially also be given for visits in only one direction.
Cultural events (e.g. concert trips) may be funded if the focus is on subject-specific meetings between students and the relevance to higher education is proven.
A maximum of one application per year can be considered per department, institute and applicant. Required/mandatory excursions or measures which have already been carried out cannot be funded.
Annual funding for applicants, departments or institutes is not possible

General Principles
The special programme jointly run by the Helmholtz Association and the DAAD is intended for highly-qualified foreign doctoral and postdoctoral students. Helmholtz-DAAD Fellowships offer excellent young scientists and researchers from all around the world the opportunity to do research at a Helmholtz Centre in Germany.
The Helmholtz Association is Germany’s largest research organisation with an annual budget of around 2.2 billion euros and 24,000 staff concentrated in 15 research centres. The Helmholtz Association works on solving the grand challenges which face society, science and industry and concentrates on researching systems of great complexity in the following six research fields: Earth and Environment, Energy, Health, Key Technologies,Structure of Matter and Transport and Space.
Helmholtz-DAAD Fellows carry out research in one of these fields and use the outstanding scientific infrastructure which the Helmholtz Centres maintain.
Helmholtz-DAAD Fellowships are awarded just once a year. The respective offer will be published usually in September under “Current Offer” on the homepages of the DAAD and the Helmholtz-Association. Please note that the number and subjects of the fellowships in the Research Fields offered by the Helmholtz Centres might differ from call to call for application.
