De Montfort University is committed to supporting international students to benefit from study in the UK. For courses starting in September 2008, De Montfort University’s Vice Chancellor is delighted to offer scholarships of £2000 each.
The £2000 scholarships are equivalent to a reduction of around 20% on the full tuition fees, and will be paid towards the full tuition fees of overseas-status students from any country in the world who wish to study any of the following types of courses at De Montfort University, Leicester:
- Full-time undergraduate degrees (BA/BSc) in any subject
- Full-time Postgraduate Diplomas and Masters courses (PGDip/MA/MSc/MBA/LLM) in any subject
- Full-time MPhil/PhD research degrees in any subject
The scholarships are available for courses starting in September 2008 only (or between September 2008 and June 2009 for MPhil/PhD research degrees).
The £2000 scholarship will be made as a one-off payment and will be deducted from the full tuition fee at the beginning of the first (or only) year of study.
Students progressing to DMU through one of our established progression schemes or collaborative partnerships can also apply for these scholarships if they wish to.
Only overseas status students are eligible to apply.

The Advanced School of Economics (in Italian: Scuola Superiore di Economia, or SSE for short) runs two doctoral programs: one in Economics and one in Business.
The Doctoral Program in Economics (DEC) and the Doctoral Program in Business (DEA) emanate from the Department of Economics and the Department of Business Management at the University of Venice. The School coordinates these two programs, that share several first-year courses and a common philosophy. Since 2008, the School has taken over over the activities of a third doctoral program in Economics and Organisation that used to be run as part of the School for Advanced Studies in Venice.
The School is based in Venice and offers only courses at a doctoral level. The official language is English. The current Director is Agar Brugiavini.
DEC: Application 2008
The deadline for applying to DEC is May 20, 2008. Notice of admission for DEC will be given by June 9, 2008. Classes start on September 1, 2008.
DEC will admit up to ten students, seven of which will be fully financed (including tuition fees and living stipend). One position in DEC will be preferentially assigned to students with an interest in Mathematical Methods for Economics. The School provides subsidized housing to all first-year students.

Abstract: Modern business networks and markets are highly dynamic and exhibit a high degree of uncertainty. Under these conditions business managers are routinely faced with complex strategic, tactical, and operational decisions; decisions ranging from the macroscopic (i.e. which markets should we enter and when?) to the microscopic (i.e. which products should be packed on which pallet?). Also customers are faced with multi attribute decisions, such as from whom can I book a travel under certain constraints (money, time, quality, etc)? Within this project we investigate how learning agents may be designed to support humans in these decision making processes. We define learning agents as software entities that carry out some set of operations on behalf of a user or another program with some degree of independence or autonomy, improve their performance from experience and in so doing employ some knowledge or representation of the user’s goals or needs.
