USA – Columbia University Postdoctoral Research Scientist Position in Particle Astrophysics
Columbia University Astrophysics Laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral research scientist position in the XENON Dark Matter group. The XENON experiment aims at detecting dark matter weakly interacting massive particles with dual-phase Xe Time projection Chambers (XeTPCs). The collaboration is currently completing the commissioning of the XENON 100 detector at the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory in Italy.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the ongoing program, including testing and calibration of the new TPC, data analysis, and Monte Carlo simulations of background processes. The candidate will also be involved with the design simulations and R&D work for a ton scale experiment planned for the next phase of the XENON program.
A recent Ph.D. in experimental particle astrophysics, high energy physics or a related field is required. Experience with noble liquid detectors and associated charge and light readouts, data analysis and statistical methods, and/or experience with low-background experiments is preferred. Good proficiency in the C/C++ programming language is mandatory.
