Two EPSRC - funded PhD positions are available in the research group of Professor M.J. Rosseinsky. The group (http://www.liv.ac.uk/chemistrywww/Staff/rosseinsky.html) works on a range of topics in modern materials chemistry of relevance to information storage and communications, sustainable energy and the predictable assembly of nanostructural materials. We use a wide range of synthesis and characterisation techniques, including synchrotron and neutron facilities across Europe.
The projects available include:
Thin film growth of new oxides (See Angewandte Chemie Int. Ed. 2007, 46, 4539) Discovery of new Ionic and mixed conductors for oxide fuel cells (See Chemistry of Materials 19, 1035, 2007) Density functional theory studies of new inorganic materials High throughput synthesis of new porous materials (See Science 315, 977, 2007) Directed assembly of oxide nanoparticle arrays.
Candidates should have 2i or higher degrees in chemistry, physics or materials science. These positions are open to all EU citizens due to funding restrictions.The stipend is the stand and EPSRC rate (GBP 12,600 per annum in 2007).
