The Paul Scherrer Institut is a centre for multi-disciplinary research and one of the world’s leading user laboratories. With its 1300 employees it belongs as an autonomous institution to the Swiss ETH domain and concentrates its activities on solid-state research and material sciences, elemen-tary particle physics, energy and environmental research as well as on biology and medicine.
The Laboratory for Materials Behaviour of the Nuclear Energy and Safety Research Department is a centre for multi-disciplinary research on nuclear materials and has an international reputation in the field of nuclear fuel behaviour, safety of pressure boundary systems and high temperature ma-terials. The group „Isotope and Elemental Analysis“ has a comprehensive experience in performing fission product and actinide analysis on irradiated nuclear fuel samples using sophisticated analyti-cal techniques. To strengthen the research activities of the group we are looking for a
Postdoctoral Fellow - Thermochemical Fuel Treatment
- Development and assembling of an ETV-ICP-MS coupling (electrothermal vaporisation, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry) for thermochemical treatment of irradiated and non-irradiated nuclear fuel and target material samples in a shielded glove-box
- Laser Ablation ICP-MS and Gas MS measurements on nuclear fuel samples
- Engagement in international research programmes (EU7) and collaborations with own publications and contributions to scientific conferences
Your profile
The successful candidate should have a PhD in physics, chemistry or material sciences, preferably in the field of advanced analytical techniques (mass spectrometry). Experience in LabVIEW programming and handling of radioactive materials would be appreciated. Good communication skills in English are required and knowledge of German is desirable. You should apply if you prefer experimental work and if you are a motivated team player who enjoys an interdisciplinary research field.
We are looking forward to your application.
