Dear Prof,
I feel privileged to introduce to you about myself as a prospective student seeking research career in Polymer Science/Engineering and it’s allied fields. I, Miss. Savita kumari, completed M.Tech (Corrosion Science & Engineering: NIT Jamshedpur, India) one year project work in Polymer Science at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) located at Hyderabad, India. Now doing research work with High performance Polymer in IICT, Hyderabad, India only.
I intend to do research in your esteemed group where I can explore my research experience and the scientific knowledge for a fruitful carrier. If I will find a place in your group, I will definitely try to prove myself from the scientific motivation I have gained so far.
During my M.Tech period, I have worked with different hyperbranched polyurethane (PUs) moisture cured systems and hyperbranched polyurethane (PU) nano-composites. The synthesized polymers were characterized with different instruments. In the 1st part, PUs were formulated from hyperbranched polyols and diisocyanates. Pentaerythritol/trimethylol propane/glycerol were reacted with adipic acid for the preparation of hydroxy-terminated hyperbranched polyester (HBPS). Later on, HBPs were reacted with isophorone diisocyanate with NCO:OH ratio of 1.6:1 and NCO-terminated PU prepolymers were formed. NCO-terminated PU prepolymers were then completely reacted with atmospheric moisture and moisture cured PU-ureas were prepared. Cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) modified montmorillonite was used as the organoclay for the synthesis of the hybrid composites. CTAB modified montmorillonite clay of 2, 3 and 5 wt.% was incorporated into the HBPs and ultrasonicated for getting good dispersion. Then, intercalated HBPs were used for the preparation of PU-urea/clay nanocomposites. The obtained polymers were characterized with Fourier Transform IR spectra (FTIR), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), angle resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (AR-XPS) etc. From these studies, a correlation of structure-property relationship was tried to elucidate.
I had the privilege to go through your publications and the areas of your interest. I believe that my academic background coupled with my research experience will give me an opportunity to join in your excellent research team. I also take this opportunity to send my detailed resume for your kind consideration and perusal. Please find in the attachment my curriculum vitae.
With regards
Thanking You
Sincerely Yours

Brief description of research work done for Ph.D.:
Ions conducting solid polymer electrolytes have been a subject of great interest due to theoretical as well as practical importance for the development of Solid–State batteries, fuel cells, gas censors, photo electrochemical solar cells and electro chromic display devices, super capacitors. The main advantages of polymeric electrolytes are their favorable electrical, optical and mechanical properties, ease of fabrication in thin film form and ability to form effective electrode-electrolyte contacts.
Solid polymer electrolytes based on PEO complexed with Sodium bismuth tetra fluoride (NaBiF4), Sodium iron tetra fluoride (NaFeF4), and Sodium lanthanum tetra fluoride (NaLaF4) were prepared by solution cast technique. The thickness of the films was measured using mechanical stylus method and was found to be 150 μm. The complexation of salts with PEO polymer was confirmed by XRD and FTIR studies.
(i)X-ray diffraction (XRD): In the X-ray diffraction patterns, high intensity peaks were observed in the pure polymer, which indicates the dominant presence of the crystalline nature. But the salts exhibited less intensity peaks, which indicate the partial crystalline phase. By comparing complexed polymer with uncomplexed polymer film, very few peaks were present in the complexed polymer, indicating a decrease in intensity with broadening at higher concentration of salts in the polymer. This indicates the decrease in crystalline phase and the dominant presence of the amorphous phase of the polymer electrolytes.
(ii)Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic(FTIR): From the FTIR spectra recorded on these films, several changes in the absorption bands, appearance of new bands along with changes in the intensities of existing peaks (and / or their disappearance) directly indicates the complexation of PEO polymer with the salts.
(iii) Differential Scanning Calorimetry studies: DSC thermo grams of pure and complexed polymer electrolytes were recorded in the range 40oC-80oC. The melting temperature values are found to be decreased with the increase of salt concentration. From the enthalpy studies an attempt was also made to evaluate the crystallinity of the polymer electrolytes. The addition of salts in to the PEO polymer results decreases the crystallinity with increasing salt concentration.
(iv) Electrical conductivity:
The conductivity of pure polymer PEO films at room temperature was of the order of 10-8 Scm-1 and varied with salt composition and temperature. The conductivity showed an increase in its value with increasing salt concentration in the polymer. This has been explained interms of decrease in the degree of crystallinity and the increase of number of mobile ions in the polymer by the addition of the salt concentration.
The temperature dependence of conductivity showed an increase in conductivity with increasing of temperature in pure as well as all complexed polymer electrolyte systems. The conductivity - temperature plots followed the Arrhenius behaviour throughout, with two regions of activation. The existence of the two regions has been explained in terms of hopping mechanisms between co-ordinating sites, local structural relaxations and segmental motions of the polymer chain.
(v) Transference numbers: Wagner’s polarization technique was employed to determine the ionic and electronic transference numbers. These numbers showed that the charge transport in these polymer electrolytes is predominantly due to ions and with a small contribution from electrons.
(vi) Impedance and Dielectric Studies
Real part of impedance (Z’) and imaginary part of impedance (Z”) were measured and the bulk electrical resistance (Rb) of the material is obtained from the Cole-Cole plots with the intercept of the high frequency side on the X-axis. From the (Cole-Cole) plots frequency dependent conductivity and activation energies were evaluated.
Dielectric measurements were made in the frequency range 100 Hz – 1MHz and temperature range 300-370 K. The decrease in dielectric constant was observed with increasing frequency as well as temperature. The loss peak was observed in the dielectric loss spectra and was identified as β-relaxation.
(vii) Optical Absorption: Optical absorption edge, direct and indirect optical energy gap values evaluated from the optical absorption data, showed a decreasing trend with the increase of salt concentration.
(viii) Polymer Batteries: Solid state batteries were fabricated using (PEO+NaBiF4), (PEO+NaFeF4), (PEO+NaLaF4) and (PEO+NaLaF4+ Plasticizer) polymer electrolyte films and their discharge characteristics were studied.
The cell parameters evaluated for plasticizer added (PEO+ NaLaF4) complexed cells showed better results when compared with (PEO+ NaLaF4) complexed cells, indicating that the addition of plasticizer to the polymer electrolyte enhance its performance and stability. This is due to increased ion mobility and or / higher degree of ion dissociation upon introducing plasticizer.
Finally, the data obtained for all the studied cells have been compared with the data for a number of similar cells reported earlier. This has clearly indicated the potential application of the present polymer electrolytes for battery applications.
Thanking you sir,
Yours sincerely,
V.M.Mohan

It’s really a pleasure for me getting across to you on internet after much time of fruitless search for a PhD position in Natural products Organic synthesis. I believe, my days has come for the delayed progress.
Sir, I have the following academic qualifications: BSc. (Chemistry), MSc (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) and MPhil. (Chemistry). For the past nine years, I have been involved in the natural products research work which entails isolation, purification and characterization of bioactive principles from plant extracts. I have gained enough practical experience on the bench which I consider will geared me working maximally alone in the laboratory with little supervision from my supervisor. I have five research papers published in reputable international journals. I have the confidence of working to your satisfaction in my PhD work, now that I am really looking forward to gear my research work towards the isolation and synthesis of these natural product compounds. I have a good working knowledge of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
It is my utmost wish to be trained by you, so that at the end of the day, I would be a better chemist, a real germ researcher who will contribute meaningfully to the growth of my department, Nigeria and the world at large. I am looking forward to receive positive response from you. Sir, you can view my CV and an abstract of my MPhil work for your immediate perusal. Thanking you in advance, I look forward to hear from you.
Sincerely yours,
Adeloye Adewale.

Additional Information:
I joined the Antimicrobial Plant Research Group, Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in September 1998 when I registered as a postgraduate student in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. I participated as a member of the research team in the search of antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant bioactive molecules from plants most especially the weeds. I have investigated a number of plant weeds and also succeeded in isolation of interesting compounds that showed bioactivity properties to which the plants is being used for as ethno-medicines.
Presently, I am actively involved in the natural products chemistry research. The most recent break through is the isolation of central nervous system (CNS) bioactive principles from Russelia equisetiformis and Pyrenacantha staudtii. Though, the compounds isolated are known natural products but, their occurrence in these species is been reported for the first time and also their biological/pharmacological activities.
The very major problems I face up till now is the issue of lack of equipment, no funding and lack of materials to really probe more into the chemistry and possibly attempt synthesis of the compounds thus isolated.
I have attended several conferences and workshops where I presented research papers and also demonstrated the operation of a machine called Accelerated Gradient Chromatography (AGC) which we use in our laboratory.
ABSTRACT:
TITLE: Extraction and identification of some antioxidant and antimicrobial compounds from Urena lobata (Linn) Leaves.
AUTHOR: ADELOYE Adewale Olufunsho
DEPARTMENT: Chemistry
DEGREE: M.Phil. (Chemistry)
YEAR: 2007
ABSTRACT
In this study, we focus on the examination of the extract of Urena lobata L. leaves for its antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal activities with a view to isolating and characterizing the biologically active components that might be present and thus provide justification for the ethnomedicinal uses of the plant in the treatment of various diseases for which it is used.
Urena lobata L. leaves were collected, identified and air-dried for 3 weeks after which they are grounded into coarse powder and extracted at room temperature with 50% aqueous ethanol for 72 hours with occasional agitation. The filtrate was concentrated to dryness in vacuo on a rotary evaporator to obtain the crude extracts. The crude extract was dissolved in distilled water and then partitioned successively with four different organic solvents which include n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The solvent fractions obtained were concentrated in vacuo and then evaluated for antibacterial, antifungal activities tests. In another bench-top bioassay antioxidant screening method, all the solvent fractions were screened for antioxidant activity using the rapid thin layer chromatographic method with 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) solution in methanol as detecting reagent. A detailed bioactivity guided fractionation was carried out on the ethyl acetate extract by gradient column chromatography using combination of Accelerated Gradient Chromatographic (AGC) method and Sephadex LH-20 adsorbent.
Preliminary evaluation of the crude extract for antibacterial and antifungal activity using agar well diffusion method with streptomycin as standard showed that the extract has a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria isolates. The ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions had a fast antioxidant reaction with DPPH solution, while the n-hexane and dichloromethane fractions gave no reaction with the test reagent. Three compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction. The structures of these compounds were determined from spectra obtained on them using available spectroscopic techniques such as Infra-red, 1H and 13C NMR to be kaempferol 1, quercetin 2, and 3-O-β-D-(6″-O-trans-p-coumaroyl)-α-L-glucopyranosyl-kaempferol 3 (tiliroside).
Results of the antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant tests showed that the isolated flavonoid compounds may be part of the compounds responsible for the biological activity of Urena lobata leaf extract. This study supports the traditional uses of the plant in the treatment of infectious diseases.

i have completed my masters in organic chemistry and want to pursue my ph.d. in chemistry.so kindly furnish me with all the necessary information to enter the university.i hold 80%right from the begining of my education.i have done many projects in h.c.u,angrau.
and righth from child hood i have won many prizes in science fairs.presently i am working as lecturer in avanthi p.g. college and iam very good a spectral dusties, chromatography, natural product chemistry.
AND MY INTENSION IS NOT TO JUST DO A PH.D. RIGHT FROM THE BEGINING I AM HAVING AN INNAVATIVE IDEA ABOUT CHEMISTRY.NOT JUST DOING PRACTICALS ALL THE DAY INSTEAD I WANT TO ANALYSE THE REACTION IN A INNOVATIVE MODE.AND UPTO MY KNOWLEDGE I AM VERY MUCH EXPERT IN ANALYSING THE THINGS WHICH A PH.D. STUDENT REQUIRES.
I HAVE ALSO DONE PROJECT ON OIL NMR AT ANGRAU,NMR AT HCU,AND ALSO DONE PROJECTS ON GENETICS,MICROBIOLOGY ETC.SO I AM COMFORTABLE WITH BOTH LIFESCIENCE AND CHEMISTRY WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE PRESENT DAY CHEMIST
i participated in many seminars on cancer, apoptosis at national level so after looking into my case kindly provide a position in your ph.d. programme

Application for PhD research programme
Dear Sir,
I wish to introduce myself as a lecturer, Department of Soil Science, of a public University of Bangladesh. I have long desire to do my higher study (PhD or MS leading PhD) on entitle of “effects and remediations of arsenic on soil fertility, fertilizer, plant nutritional aspects”. I am an agriculturist and I have completed my M. S. in Soil Science.
A hundred of problems regarding sustainable resource management are already arisen but research in this area is very limited here in Bangladesh due to limitation off experts, economic crisis and lack of Government awareness.
Environmental arsenic pollution is a serious and growing environmental problem, especially on the Indian subcontinent. High levels of arsenic in soil and drinking water has been reported around the Bangladesh , where around millions people are at risk of arsenic poisoning.
So, as an agriculturist and especially as a soil scientist, a well-wisher of mankind and conscientious one I want to immerse myself in research in this sector.
Moreover, Here in Bangladesh we do not have any option of higher studies in such type off imperative subject because of various causes. If I get a chance to the program, I might be able to contribute something locally to my nation (directly the rural people to whom I am working for and my University where I am pursuing my service) and globally to the whole world.
It will be great pleasure for me if you kindly give your consent to study in your university. I am sending Curriculum Vitae and Abstracts of my research findings in M.S. as attach file for your kind consideration.
I will be great full to you if you give me a generous recommendation letter that you are agree to supervise me. It also helpful for me if you give me some address where I well able to apply for scholarship.
I am looking forward for hearing from you for your kind convenience.
Sincerely yours
S. M. Sayem
