The GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ Potsdam) presents as member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres the national Research Centre for Earth Sciences.
The department 5 “Geoengineering”, section 5.4 “Engineering Hydrology” invites application for a Ph.D. Position (m/f)
Tasks:
The successful candidate will participate in an activity to develop a simulation system for quantifying the flood risk (precipitation-runoff generation-flood routing-flood defence-inundation-damage) at the regional scale. He/she will develop and apply simulation models describing the hydraulic processes in the river system, including flood defences (dykes, polders) and flood plain inundation.
- University degree in hydrology, civil engineering (water resources management), physics, mathematics, or a related discipline
- Strong background in hydraulics
- Extensive experiences in programming (Fortran, C++ etc.)
- Knowledge in data processing, and spatial data analysis
- Ability and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
Start: As soon as possible
Duration: 2 years (with the option of one year extension)
Working time: 19,5 hours/week
Salary: EG 13 TVöD-O
