Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the general area of software defined radio and reconfigurable platforms. This area of research, led by Dr. Ronan Farrell, as part of substantial ongoing activities in the Institute of Microelectronics and Wireless Systems and is part of a larger collaborative research programme within the SFI Centre for Telecommunications Value-Chain Research (CTVR)
The Institute has developed a number of reconfigurable radio platforms, using both direct and FPGA based systems to demonstrate flexible reconfigurable radios, similar to the software radio platform from the GNU radio and the USRP by Mark Ettus. This system offers superior performance and is one of the first such systems available outside of the United States. The available position is for someone to take advantage of this platform and help advance a research programme in the broad area of reconfigurable radio being cognisant of the technical challenges arising from the physical layer technologies.
The ideal candidate should be passionate about the area of software defined radio and to have demonstrated a proactive and creative approach to their work. It will also be important for the person to be comfortable working within a team and with a larger network of collaborators. From a technical perspective, the ideal candidate should be confident at the system level in wireless communications and be confident in the underlying components needed (such as mixers, amplifiers, etc). The candidate should also ideally be willing to participate in the development of the next generation of software radio platforms and their applications.
The position is for an initial 12 months and upon review may be extended for up to 5 years. The available salary ranges from appoximately (Euro) 33,900 to 54,774 depending on experience, with a 20% pension contribution. The position is immediately available. Both EU and non-EU candidates are welcome to apply.
