Research Fellow in Informatics (Combinatorial Scientific Computing) at the Department of Informatics
At the Department of Informatics a position as research fellow (PhD position) is open for 3 years in the «ParComb» project. The project is aimed at designing parallel algorithms for combinatorial problems in scientific computing. The type of problems studied includes, among others, different kinds of colouring and matching problems motivated from applications in scientific computing. The successful candidate will cooperate in developing and implementing working codes that can be used in applied research.
We are looking for an excellent PhD candidate with a background in Parallel Programming and Algorithms.

Applicants must have achieved a masters degree or equivalent education, or have submitted their master thesis for assessment by the application deadline. It is a prerequisite, however, that the examination results are out within 4 weeks of the closing date for submitting the master thesis.
The research fellow must take part in the Universitys approved PhD programme leading to the degree within a time limit of 3 years. Hence, applicants must meet the formal admission requirements for the PhD programme. Application for admission to the PhD programme, incl. a project plan outline for the training module, will be worked out in collaboration with the actual research group.
In total, the fellowship period is 3 years. The fellowship period may be reduced if the successful applicant has held previous employment as a research fellow.
As part of the PhD study the candidate should spend 6 months at the Old Dominion University, USA, working with Professor Alex Pothen. Thus an applicant must be eligible to obtain a visa to the USA.
The project is run by the Department of Informatics and is financially supported by the Research Council of Norway (NFR) through the eVita program (for e-science).

Starting salary at salary level 43 (code 1017) on the government salary scale (currently NOK 325,800 per year, which is about 40,200 Euro or 56,000 USD); following ordinary meriting regulations (wage levels 43/47).
There are no teaching duties.
Knowledge of the Norwegian language is not necessary as the working language will be English.
The Algorithms group at the Department of Informatics has currently 4 professors, 5 postdocs, 8 PhD students, as well as several master students. The group and the students represent a mix of several nationalities.
