Project and job description
In the European Project P2P-Fusion, Delft University of Technology is responsible for the design and implementation of the peer-to-peer Mediaspace, a peer-to-peer layer capable of zero-cost publication and distribution of multimedia content in a scalable fashion in virtual communities. The Fusion platform will offer seamless integration of text, pictures, audio and video. The content should also be editable by members of the virtual communities.
The PhD student’s research will focus on the design and implementation of the Mediaspace, which on the one hand has to become part of the Tribler P2P client developed by TU Delft, while on the other hand it has to be integrated with the semantic layer and applications in virtual communities developed by other partners in the P2P-Fusion project. Potential research directions include content rating and recommendation, distributed social networking, tag-based navigation and content moderation mechanisms.
Requirements
Applicants should have an MSc degree in Computer Science, preferably with a specialisation in (distributed) computer systems design and analysis, including system implementation and experimentation.
Conditions of employment
This position has a temporary employment basis of 4 years (48 months). The maximum number of working hours per week is 38 (1 FTE). The estimated starting salary for the PhD student is € 1,956 per month gross, with a maximum of € 2,502 gross (based on a full-time appointment and depending on experience). Benefits and other employment conditions are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
The successful candidate will be employed by Delft University of Technology for a fixed period of 4 years within which he/she is expected to write a doctoral thesis.
