Netherlands – Delft University of Technology Postdoc Position in ‘Time Integration Methods for Unsteady Flows and Fluid-structure Interactions’
The Aerodynamics Group of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering has a post-doc vacancy on Time Integration Methods for Unsteady Flows and Fluid-structure Interactions, starting December 2007.
Job description
The topic of this two-year post-doc position is sophisticated time integration methods for unsteady turbulent flows and fluid-structure interactions. The main application lies in aerodynamics and aero elasticity for wind turbines. The position is part of a larger project, ‘Uncertainties in unsteady flows and fluid-structure interaction simulations – applied to wind turbines at sea’, funded by STW (Dutch Technology Foundation). One of this project’s goals is to obtain a reduction in computational time for unsteady turbulent flow and fluid-structure interaction simulations using sophisticated time integration techniques, for which we now seek a post-doc candidate. Tasks include the analysis of different numerical schemes on academic problems, as well as implementation of the method into a general-purpose CFD code and application to flow around wind turbine blades.
Requirements
Applicants should have a PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics. The successful candidate enjoys working in a team and has intellectual curiosity and knowledge of relevant topics.
Programming experience is an advantage, especially in C++. This position’s main responsibility is research, but the appointee will also be given the opportunity to acquire some teaching experience. Delft University of Technology is a bilingual organisation; a good command of English (written and oral) is essential, while good Dutch is also preferred.
Conditions of employment
The extent of this position is a maximum of 38 hours per week (1 FTE). The position has a temporary employment basis of two years (24 months). The estimated monthly post-doc starting salary is based on scale 10, with a maximum of € 3,597 per month gross (based on a full-time appointment and depending on experience). Benefits and other employment conditions are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
