The researcher will belong to the Environment, Trade and Energy research group, which has a lively research culture and attractive facilities.
The SCRATCH project will bring together University of Birmingham researchers from Biosciences, Metallurgy & Materials, Chemical Engineering and Economics, to study the supply chain for the hydrogen economy in collaboration with 20 companies. Specific research topics include the production of hydrogen from biomass, hydrogen storage and purification, fuel cell utilisation, and economic incentives and barriers to the technology. Fuel cells are still not sufficiently developed for commercialisation in buildings and vehicles. The purpose of this project is to build the supply chain for fruition in 2010 when commercialisation is expected.
Candidates should have a PhD in economics or a related subject, or be close to completion. A background in energy, the environment or technology is desirable.
Starting salary £25,134 to £32,796 a year (potential progression on performance once in post to £34,813 a year).
