Further details
Engineering Systems department is looking for an enthusiastic post-doctoral research officer to support their activities in teaching and research. The teaching requirements of the group vary from very elementary level mathematics to serving military officers to advanced mathematics on post-graduate courses to experienced scientists and engineers. Your teaching responsibilities include contribution to teaching material on Mathemetics for Ammunition Technician Officers, ICSC(L), Battlefield Technology Course, Scientific Programming in F95, Programming and Software development in C, Computational Partial Differential Equations, High Performance and Parallel Computing and short courses on Fortran and Matlab. Your research responsibilities will include enhancing the capabilities of Air3D (a compressible flow solver) software. Some of these enhancements will include, algorithmic performance, parallelization of the program and development of a graphical user interface.
The post is ideally suited for a recent PhD in Applied Mathematics with a specific focus on implementation of advanced numerical algorithms. You will have sound experience of developing numerically intensive software in Unix/Linux environment using Fortran, C/C++, and a good knowledge of analytical methods for the solution of Ordinary Differential and Partial Differential Equations. You will also have a good knowledge of numerical software libraries, and demonstrable of experience of using MPI libraries. Knowledge of formulating mathematical models of physical processes is an additional advantage.
It is anticipated that you will spend approximately 40% of your time enhancing Air3D software, 40% on supporting our teaching activities and the remaining 20% on personal research. Further extension of the post will strongly depend upon external support for research consultancy in the area of computational fluid dynamics.
