Italy – 2008 University of Bologna PhD Program in Business Administration
The Ph.D. program in Business Administration (Dottorato in Direzione Aziendale) of the University of Bologna intends to train brilliant researchers in the fields of management, by offering courses in several areas such as organization theory, business strategy, research methods, social network analysis, marketing, innovation management. The Ph.D in Business Administration is organized by the Department of Management of the University of Bologna, in cooperation with the University LUISS Guido Carli of Rome and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
The courses are held in Italian and English. In addition to the courses, students will be required to attend several seminars held by internationally renowned scholars. At the end of the third semester, Ph.D. students should present and discuss a doctoral dissertation proposal describing the objectives, theoretical background and research design of their dissertation work. The enrolment in the third year of the program is conditional on the approval of the research proposal by the doctoral committee. The third year of the program is devoted to preparation and writing of the doctoral thesis. In this period, students are encouraged to spend a period as visiting scholars at international universities.
A partial list of institutions having hosted in the past visiting students from the PhD in Business Administration of the University of Bologna includes: Carnegie Mellon University, City University London, Ecole des Mines de Paris, INSEAD, Kellogg School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Northwestern University, Texas A&M University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Michigan, University of Philadelphia.
In order to apply for the 2008 edition of the Ph.D in Business Administration of the University of Bologna, a university degree (laurea specialistica/magistrale) is required or an equivalent degree obtained abroad. The degree must be completed within the deadline for application specified on the call for applications (second half of September 2007, the exact date will be communicated on this website or within the 31st October 2007. In the latter case, candidates (with a degree obtained after the deadline for application) will be admitted to the selection process under condition, and they will be required to communicate as soon as possible to the Doctorate Program Office of the University of Bologna the attainment of the degree.
The 2008 edition of the Ph.D. in Business Administration (23rd cycle) will start in January 2008. In the 2008 edition, 12 students will be admitted to the program and 6 fellowships will be offered. The deadline to apply to the 2008 edition is the second half of September 2007.
