The Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (EIPRS) is a scholarship scheme funded by the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training. It is a tuition fee scholarship. The scholarship is open to eligible candidates who are commencing full-time enrolment for the first time in the Higher Degree by Research (HDR) in Australian higher education institutions, including the University of Sydney.
The objective of the University of Sydney EIPRS is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strengths and support the University’s research effort.
Recipients of the EIPRS will be automatically awarded the International Postgraduate Research Award (IPA) payable as stipend. The duration of the EIPRS is up to three years for a doctorate (PhD) candidature and up to two years for a Master’s by Research. Approximately 30 EIPRS are awarded each year. Recipients may commence their study during semester 1 (March) or Semester 2 (July).
No separate application for the EIPRS is required – all candidates need only complete the University of Sydney Postgraduate Research Application Form (224kb pdf).
To be eligible for an EIPRS, you must:
- Be an international student commencing full time enrolment in an HDR at this University. If you commenced your HDR in the previous year, but due to the timing of your application and subsequent enrolment were unable to be considered for an EIPRS, you may apply and be considered for an EIPRS during the immediate round of EIPRS application.
- Be a student undertaking study in a subject area identified by the University as within the areas of its research strength. For information on the University research strengths, refer to http://www.usyd.edu.au/research/about/areas_of_research.shtml.
- Not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree, or, if undertaking a Research Master’s degree, not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.
- Not have held an AusAID scholarship within two years prior to commencing the EIPRS.
- Not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government makes a substantial contribution.
- Not previously have received an EIPRS, unless the previous EIPRS was for a master by research degree that you have completed and you are now applying for a doctorate research degree.
The outcome of the EIPRS will be known during 1st week in November. Only successful applicants will be notified.
Students who have commenced their research candidature at the University during 2007 but were not considered for the 2007 EIPRS last year due to the timing of their application and subsequent enrolment and would like to apply for a 2008 EIPRS should complete the special EIPRS application form (244kb pdf). This form MUST be received at the International Office by 31 August 2007.
