Studentships available in the Life Sciences Graduate Program of the International University Bremen, “Biological Recognition” (BioRec).
The graduate school “Biological Recognition” (BioRec) at the International University Bremen (IUB) has studentships available to begin in September, 2007. Application deadlines are February 1st and May 1st, 2007.
IUB (http://www.iu-bremen.de) is a private research and teaching university in the Arts and Sciences in Northern Germany, founded in 1999. We attract the very best students worldwide to our American-type BSc and MSc degree programs. The working language on Campus is English.
The Molecular Life Sciences graduate program, BioRec (http://www.iu-bremen.de/biorec), is focused on biological recognition, one of the most fascinating phenomena of life. Specific recognition events occur at all levels of complexity in biological systems, and their investigation requires a convergence of the disciplines of the life sciences, including, but not limited to, structural and computational biology, biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, immunology, physiology, and biotechnology. Faculty from these and neighboring areas have come together in BioRec to combine their expertise in research and teaching.
Students who enter BioRec with a Bachelor of Science or equivalent (that is, three years of study in a life sciences subject – including three years of study in a German Diplom program) are taken to the degree of M.Sc. within five years. In addition to practical training in three rotation laboratories and the doctoral thesis research, BioRec offers a combination of carefully designed didactic courses, a lively seminar program with opportunities for oral presentation and discussion of scientific information and hypotheses, and teaching experience in undergraduate courses.
There are about ten full stipends available. They consists of a waiver of the study fees at IUB, and a monthly allowance to cover food, housing, and personal expenses, and are guaranteed for two years. Students who do well in the MSc stage can, after 18 months, directly transfer to their PhD thesis work without MSc thesis and examination. This is dependent on an offer of financial suppport from a faculty member.
IUB is an excellent place for graduate training in the life sciences: faculty have ambitious and interactive research programs, scientific work takes place in new and well-equipped laboratories, and other graduate (such as Nanomolecular Sciences) and undergraduate programs (Biology, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Biochemical Engineering) create a vigorous scientific environment.

Sir this is the statement of purpose of M.RAVIKANTH. through this I want to tell you all my desires and my destiny in the field of chemistry,bio-chemistry and nanotechnology.
INTRODUCTION :
Sir, my name is M.RAVIKANTH. I am from INDIA one of the developing country. I feel I am also like my country want to emerge out and make some land marks in my field. I have done my masters in organic chemistry. As I have already said you my interest for science and technology. Once our biology madam said that plants imbibe water than I was in 4th standard and she gave some theoretical explanation but she did not perform any experiment. I was not satisfied, I want to do her theoretical explanation experimentally. As soon as I reached home I took two plants and two bowls of water in one of the bowls I added pink color and put the plants one in each bowl after a while I noticed that the plant in colored water was pink at the stem than I was satisfied. And came to a conclusion that plants imbibe water I also got the appreciation of my biology teacher, off course one may feel that how small is this experiment, but one point to be noted I was than just a kid of 4th standard who hesitated to believe some theoretical explanation and done the experiment on his own. By this small example one can understand my thirst for scientific knowledge. From than till date I have many such examples which quote my thirst for scientific knowledge, my presence of mind and also my dedication toward the scientific approach.
Educational background:
Here is my splendid educational background. Where I have scored few really good records. Right from lower classes I have good academic records in 10th standard public examination I have proved my self with 80% of marks with 91 out of 100 in science. I was the district topper ( 5th place). I proved my self in intermediate (11th and 12th standard, Bi.P.C.) also secured 45 out of 50 in chemistry in intermediate and my overall percentage was 79% which is very tough. And in bachelors (Mb.G.C. i.e.: microbiology,genetics,chemistry) I was really magnificent I was very good at practicals and secured 90 out of 100 in practicals. And regarding theory I have once again secured good marks (83%). Coming to my masters I made it clear that I have enough of chemical knowledge with (73%).
All these academic record have imbibed great strength in me. My schooling, undergraduate and master studies made the chance for me to do my PhD. in organic chemistry.
Last but not the least I have participated in many national level seminars on apoptosis and cancer also participated in state level debate and essay writing competition on science and technology and HIV/AIDS.I have done projects on NMR, MASS, UV, IR, at central university in India with this knowledge of NMR I also worked on OIL NMR at ANGRAU (president BUSH visited this university) And I have also worked on chromatography.
Finally I wish to say that I have the knowledge of both biology and chemistry which is very essential for the person in research field.
Why this course :
Right from the beginning I have very good interest in doing research, my father himself is a PhD. Holder. All my academic records show my interest for research in chemistry field and contribute some great wonders to the world of science. Right form child hood my thirst for scientific knowledge has been quoted earlier to quench that thirst I have to enter the field of research in chemistry else all my struggle for all these years will go in vain.
