Academic Supervisor:
Professor Ivana K Partridge, Head of Composites Centre, Materials Department
Scott Bader Co. and Cranfield University are undertaking a collaborative research programme looking at the applications of carbon nanotube modified polyester resins, and consequently are seeking a suitably qualified graduate to undertake the year long research project. The work will include development of the manufacturing process and characterisation of carbon-nanotube filled polyester resin, as well as the optimisation of the formulations as a function of the applications.
The successful candidate will operate from both Cranfield University in Bedfordshire, UK and the nearby research centre of Scott Bader Co., a world leading supplier of high quality, technically superior polyester resins. Cranfield University is a wholly postgraduate university, where top quality research is strongly linked to industrial applications. The Composites Centre has extensive experience in the field of thermosetting resin modification and an expanding activity in the area of nanocomposites. You will be joining two excellent established teams with a long history of successful collaboration.
Successful completion of the project will result in the degree of Master of Science by Research and would suit a recent graduate in Materials Science, Physics, Physical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
The intended project start date is between November 2006 and January 2007, by mutual agreement.
