The Computer Vision Laboratory (CVL) (http://www.cse.unr.edu/CVL) in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applications for a postdoctoral position. Active research areas within CVL include biometrics (e.g., face, hand, fingerprint), object detection and recognition, object tracking and pose estimation, visual surveillance, and human activity recognition. CVL is currently funded by NSF, NASA, and DoD.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing novel computer vision algorithms for visual surveillance with emphasis on human activity/intent recognition. Also, he/she will coordinate the work of two graduate students. This will initially be a one year appointment with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Requirements
A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field. Strong background in computer vision, pattern recognition, and machine learning. A proven record of publications in top computer vision, pattern recognition, and machine learning conferences and journals. Excellent programming skills in C or C++, familiarity with Linux, and good knowledge of OpenCV and Matlab.

My name is Bo Gong. I am currently working in the State Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Science, Institute of Biophysics Chinese Academy of Sciences. I will receive my Master’s degree in June, 2007. I read some of your papers and your website, which interested me greatly. Could you supervise me for my Ph.D degree? Below are the details about my research background.
I have worked in the laboratory of electrophysiology for two years, applying the patch clamp techniques. I also do immunohistochemical and molecular genetic experiments in my lab. During my graduate study, my work mainly focuses on the research of potassium channels in hippocampal pyramidal neurons. At the beginning of my research in the lab, my workmate and I studied the effect of CB (cerebroside) on increasing the open probility of BK channels expressed in CHO-K1 cell line, then I did the experiments by myself on the role of GD1b (ganglioside) in modulation of IK current and excitability of hippocampal pyramidal neurons. We found GD1b can inhibit IK current, whereas it had no effect on exitability in the neurons. From beginning of this year, I spent more time on studying the properties of potassium currents(IK and IA) in hippocampal still now!
