The Paul Robitschek Czech Study Program provides scholarships to undergraduate students from universities or institutions of higher learning in the Czech Republic so that they may fully participate in American life while studying at the University of Nebraska for two academic semesters - approximately 9 months.

The program has been established to benefit students who have a serious commitment to experiencing American democracy and for whom studying in America might not otherwise be economically possible. It was the intent of the Donor to ensure that the recipients of the Scholarship gain in deeper understanding of the democratic way of life. To do so, it is expected of the recipients to enter this educational experience with an open mind and to be enthusiastically receptive to the different influences to which they will be exposed in and out of the classroom.

Further, it was the Donor’s hope that by doing so, the experience will help to enrich their lives and contribute the their ability to take up positions of leadership within the Czech Republic.

Robitschek Scholarship Benefits

  • Travel from the Czech Republic to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska.
  • Tuition, room and board, books and fees for two academic semesters—approximately 9 months.
  • Return travel to the Czech Republic.

Provisions

  • Undergraduate tuition benefits cover up to 15 credit hours per semester for two consecutive semesters. Tuition coverage does not apply to correspondence courses, auditing courses, or summer courses.
  • Required books purchased at the University Bookstore for courses in which you are enrolled.
  • Health Insurance and required fees included.
  • Room and board (meals) equivalent to double room 19 meal plan option within the University of Nebraska Housing system.
  • Air transportation to Lincoln, Nebraska, from the Czech Republic before the start of Fall semester classes.
  • Air transportation to the Czech Republic from Lincoln, Nebraska, following the completion of Spring Semester classes.
  • *It does not provide for entertainment or incidental expenses.

Robitschek Scholarship - Requirements

  • English language fluency.
  • Applicants should be willing to seek part time employment to provide for their own personal needs.
  • Applicants should be prepared to engage in regular communication with the program coordinator.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated academic proficiency.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Enthusiasm for experiencing American free-market economics and culture.

Robitschek Scholarship - Application Process
The Robitschek program is designed for students who will have at least one more year of education to complete their degree in the Czech Republic. For example, you would meet this requirement if you completed one or more years of study before coming to the University of Nebraska, then would return to your university to complete one or more years of your program.

Interested applicants shall submit a current Curriculum Vitae (Résumé) and a brief essay stating the reasons for the applicant’s interest in studying in the United States. The specific areas to be addressed in this essay are:

  • How did you learn about the Robitschek Scholarship?
  • What is your reason(s) for wanting to study in the United States?
  • How might you expect that this year could impact your future goals?
  • What would you like to be doing in 10 years?
  • If you were accepted as a Robitschek Scholar, why do you think you would be successful at the University of Nebraska?
  • How many years of tertiary education do you need to complete your degree in the Czech Republic, and what degree will you obtain?
