France – Ondalys Postdoc Position in Optical Simulations for Novel Probe Design
A French innovative company (Ondalys, http://www.ondalys.fr/en ) is currently developing a novel optical probe for characterizing complex products. This Research and Development study is done in collaboration with a French public research center (Cemagref: http://www.cemagref.fr/English/ ) and Pr. Hamid Dehghani from the University of Birmingham, UK (School of Computer Science: http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/ )
Ondalys is a spin-off company, dedicated to spectroscopic data processing and design of innovative optical solutions http://www.ondalys.fr/en/randd_ondalys.php). Composed of young researchers and engineers, Ondalys stays to the forefront of innovation on these topics, thanks to many cooperation projects with public institutes and industrial customers in France and throughout the EU.
Compared to classical near infrared spectroscopy, the objective of this solution is to correct for scattering effects and evaluate precisely the absorption and scattering coefficients. The data are processed using advanced chemometrics techniques and simulation approaches (Inverse problem solving).
A first probe has been developed and is currently tested for several applications (medical, pharmaceutical, agro-food industries).
In this frame, the R&D post-doctoral work will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Optimize the robustness of the probe using a modeling/simulation software package (e.g. TracePro, or modify free software such as Wang and Jacques, or create a toolbox on Matlab based on NIRfast). The simulation must take into account the sample geometries and the optical probe properties.
- Test the new geometries on phantoms, validate the illumination with other optical systems
- Participate to the industrial tests (pharmaceutical industry, clinical trials) in cooperation with equipment manufacturers.
End results include publications, software, and demonstrations. The postdoctoral fellow will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, composed of optical researcher, chemometrics researcher and IT persons.
Education: the applicant must own a PhD, applied to the optical interactions with materials (bio-optics applied optics or physics) or any related technical discipline. No experience is required, but a two years professional experience would be appreciated.
Experience: simulations in optics or physics (use of simulation package, MonteCarlo, finite elements…), Matlab, vibrational spectroscopy / hyperspectral imaging / tomography, IT
Skills: multi-disciplinary research team work, work with industrial applications, communication, English or French language required. The ability to use Matlab or other computational languages would be a plus.
Postdoc duration: 18 months – Job opportunity at Ondalys afterwards
Jobtype: Full time
Location: Ondalys / Cemagref, in Montpellier (south of France – by the Mediterranean Sea, 3hours from the Alps or Pyrenees).
Wages: 2150€ gross income/month + benefits
