Postdoc or PhD student
The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI/AVL)
(Noord-Holland), 36 hours per week
Job description
Our research group works in close collaboration with the group of Prof Ton Schumacher. The main subject of our research line is the translation of novel immunotherapeutic strategies to clinical application. As an example, we have developed a novel DNA vaccination strategy using a permanent make-up or tattoo device for the intradermal delivery of DNA. We have shown the speed and robustness of this method in terms of induction of vaccine-specific immune responses in several preclinical models. The first clinical trials using this strategy are starting in 2006 in patients suffering from cancer. Further insight into the mechanisms by which this type of intradermally applied vaccines induce T cell responses will be helpful to improve the technology. We have recently shown that intravital imaging with confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) allows us to dissect the molecular events occurring in the skin upon intradermal delivery of DNA encoding fluorescent proteins real time. In this project, this approach will be utilized to address a series of fundamental questions regarding induction of immune responses upon intradermal vaccination.
Requirements
