Reference No. 139360
The University of Sydney frequently partners with a range of leading external organisations to conduct various research projects. Recently, the Universitys Brain & Mind Research Institute (BMRI) has joined with the Inspire Foundation, a leading not-for-profit organisation that provides opportunities for young people to change their world.
The BMRI and the Inspire Foundation work collaboratively to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people. Focussing on wellness promotion, prevention and early intervention, Inspire utilises the audience’s chosen medium of the internet and related technologies to connect to young people in a way that traditional services cannot.
The BMRI and the Inspire Foundation are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to research related to the promotion of help-seeking behaviour and improvement of mental health outcomes for males aged 16-25. This position is funded by the Australian Research Council, and offers a rare opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research that harnesses the power of contemporary technology and the expertise of leading academics.
Well-suited to this role is an experienced researcher who shares a passion and enthusiasm for the prevention and understanding of mental health in young males. The appointee will apply their research and interpersonal skills to produce reports and publications, consult with young men and team members, and enhance reporting relationships with senior academics.
A genuine interest in young people’s mental health issues and the use of the internet to promote positive participation, resilience, life skills and social connectedness will be pivotal for this position.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Psychology, Computer Sciences or a related field, and have proven experience conducting independent research. Experience in quantitative data analysis and skills in statistical packages such as SPSS will be essential, as will a background working with young males. Mental health research experience and a background working with non-profit organisations or within university-industry collaborations will be highly advantageous.
The position is full-time fixed term for two years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.
Appointment to this position is subject to the provisions of the NSW Child protection legislation. Relevant criminal history, apprehended violence orders and prior employment checks, including relevant disciplinary proceedings, will be conducted on the preferred applicant.
Remuneration package: $76,754 - $82,389 (which includes a base salary Level A $64,858 - $69,620 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employers contribution to superannuation).
